I worry all day. What helps?
· Source: McGowan & Behar, Behavior Modification, 2013
Worries don't wait for a good moment. In 2013, researchers tried something simple with 53 people who worry a lot by habit. Some got a worry period each day: thirty minutes, same time, same place, for two weeks. The others were told to face each worry whenever it came. The worry-time group came out ahead. They reported less worry, less anxiety and less trouble sleeping. The researchers call the result preliminary, but it's a simple thing to try. Putting a worry off isn't pushing it away. It just gets an appointment. Pick a time for tomorrow. When a worry turns up, give it one word and save it for then.
