Is it bad that my mind wanders?
· Source: Killingsworth & Gilbert, Science, 2010
Forty-six point nine percent. That's how often people's minds were somewhere else, when 2,250 adults were asked at random moments of their day. Close to half of waking life, spent away from what's in front of you. On average, people were less happy when their minds wandered, most of all when the thoughts went somewhere unpleasant. It's a link, not proof that wandering causes a low mood. Tonight, look back and notice what you were doing when the day felt best.
